Wet Day Out

A little while back the whole family went on an outing with the employees of Craig and Graham's Mum's company. It's a very small company and not all the employees attended. The boss made up for that by bringing his family, including his very cute daughter.

Craig and Graham had breakfast on the platform while waiting for a train.

The Boss had eaten already.

One of the other employees goes by the English name Mick.

The Boss's Daughter stayed close to her dad while she was on the platform.

You can't tell from the photo but Graham loved being on the train.

He bounced up and down making everyone laugh. His Dad really should have thought to take a video.

Craig was much more subdued. He was happy just finishing his breakfast.

It had been raining very gently in Taipei but once they had arrived at their destination of Jinguashi the rain was a little steadier. For the more observant readers, yes, umbrellas were being sold for the princely sum of NT$150.

Graham looked really good in his hand-me-down raincoat and water resistant pants inherited from Cousin Ishan.

Craig has almost outgrown his raincoat. When he first used this one it reached his ankles!

Some of the photos here were taken with a proper camera and not Craig and Graham's Dad's mobile phone. That's why there's so many photos this time and why there's so many pictures of the little girl. She is very cute.

The little lady needed help from her mum to get up stairs in the rain.

The first stop was the old residence built for a Japanese prince. When walking to it passed some other old Japanese mining company residences the hills behind the houses were covered in mist.

You can't tell from the photos but the rain started to get serious here. This young lady took quite a liking to Craig.

Everyone's umbrellas were taking a pounding as the group walked toward a nearby gold museum.

Graham had retreated to the inside of his pram where it was easier to stay dry.

Craig had to share a small umbrella with his Mum.

The fog was low in the valley next to the museum.

The area around the museum is actually well preserved from its mining days.

Mick seemed to find the 220kg gold ingot hard to move.

Others were happy just to touch it.

There was plenty of information in the museum but absolutely nothing about the few years when the mine was a Japanese POW camp called Kinkaseki.

The little group managed to find some shelter out of the rain while waiting for a bus to Juifen.

Craig seemed to be having fun despite the poor weather.

The group found a nice place to have lunch. By coincidence, it was the same place that Uncle Jim and The Girls had lunch in when they visited about this time last year.

After lunch they tried to walk through the main shopping street. (Alley would be a better description.) But, it was very crowded and cold.

So, they stopped to have some hot soup.

The soup was sweet enough to be a dessert.

It was a really good idea, at the time.

Then it was time to go back to the train station to head home.

More photos were taken while waiting for the train. This attempt to take a family photo was affected by an intruder.

The camera was turned on everyone.

There was no escape.

There was nothing else to do while waiting for the train.

Father and daughter.

Graham enjoyed the train ride home almost as much the ride in the morning.

He loved watching the scenery rush passed the window.

The boss's daughter came over to chat but the boys were more interested in other things.
