Video Blitz

Graham's former babysitter recently delivered a large number of photos and videos of Graham and Craig. Graham is the major attraction. Some of them were taken when he was very small.

The photos also cover a long period of time. Well, a year and a half is a long time if you're only 20 months old. Click here to have a look.

Trip to the Zoo

A recent plan to go to the zoo on a Monday was delayed by heavy rain in the morning. But, one day later the weather was dry enough to head out to see the flamingos again.

It was a very windy day, as you can see here.

The koalas were predictably sleepy.

Taking photos of the real penguins was too difficult. Craig was happy to pose with a concrete replica outside the Penguin House.

This was the beaver enclosure! No beavers in sight but this large unidentified water bird was having a fine time.

The elephants were exactly where they were supposed to be.

Graham wasn't too sure what to make of it all at times.

The zebra enclosure is quite large and the animals were not interested in the people passing by, making it difficult to get zebras into the photo.

On the way out, a brief stop was made at the panda enclosure. The pandas were asleep. So Craig posed with a concrete replica. He doesn't like looking at the camera.

Later, a cheap dinner was had at home, after which, Craig had an excellent dessert of fruit and ice cream! Once upon a time Craig didn't like any cold foods but he's become a bit of an ice cream monster now.

The First Half of April

There was some cool wet weather back at the beginning of April. The rain kept the boys indoors so much that a new DVD player had to be purchased to replace a broken old one. Graham appreciated the gesture.

On the few days that the weather permitted, the boys have visited a large variety of parks.

They've even started playing together. Graham tries quite hard to be a playmate for Craig.

Craig's weekly soccer lessons have suffered several cancellations due to wet weather. The one time the weather allowed a lesson, Craig was very happy.
In some ways, he's starting to get into the swing of things. He can do some of the warm-up exercises quite well.

Craig has a lot of trouble concentrating when the coach Ian is explaining things but the lessons are heaps of fun. There's a large number of photos here that give a better indication of what goes on.

The boys both like slides which is a good thing because Taipei's parks are not blessed with a lot of space but they almost all have slides.

There was one Saturday evening when Craig started feeling sick during dinner. Hehad a bit of a fever so Craig's Mum lent him a vest to stay warm on the walk home.

With all the wet weather, playing silly games at home has been one way to pass the time.

But afternoons outdoors became more possible as the month wore on.

Craig and Graham have been to lots of places with Dad recently.

One Sunday afternoon, Craig went for a hike with Dad while Graham stayed at home to have a nap with Mum. The route Craig and his Dad took led them to a lookout above the Grand Hotel. Crag is pointing at a plane landing at Songshan Airport but it's a bit to the right of where his finger is aimed and it's very small.

The cloud cover was low, it was threatening to rain and the air pollution was pretty bad as well. Not a good combination when trying to look at the view.

On the way back they took a shortcut across the front of the hotel.

And, then stopped briefly for a snack before getting on Craig's Dad's scooter to go home.

When they arrived home, they were not surprised to find Graham on the sofa watching a DVD again.

Short Break at the Beach and Back

The next day saw the boys down at the beach for hours. Graham managed to get off the towel and play in the sand.

Craig played his usual game of filling up the bucket with sand so that "castles" could be built.

Craig also had some fun playing with the water.

And, Craig and his Dad went for a walk up to the far end of the beach. On the right of this photo, in the background, you can see the roof of their hotel. It's a big place.

After a deep hole had been dug as protection from the wind, Graham got in and started digging.

He seemed to have quite a good time.

Later in the day Craig insisted on going for a swim.

So, after Craig put floaties on his arms Dad took him out into water deep enough that the boy couldn't touch bottom. Craig got spun around and Dad even let him go so that he was floating by himself. The water wasn't cold but the wind was still very strong. Craig had to get wrapped up in a towel very quickly after he got out.

The boys then enjoyed a late-afternoon fruit snack back on the balcony.

The boys were still very hungry at dinner time.

Graham became a little excited and started making a mess so his mum had to feed him the last few mouthfuls. He normally prefers to feed himself these days.

Then, it was back to the hotel playroom for more fun.

Graham had some trouble making his little vehicle go forwards. Craig thought Graham was just backing up so they could start a race.

There's plenty of stuff for kids to play with in the playroom. It's all a bit under-used, actually.

Craig started getting bored and climbing up to places he shouldn't.

His Dad probably could have put the camera down and dragged him down but that would have spoiled the fun.

On the morning of the last day Dad took a silly photo of an advertising billboard. This young woman has been in this silly pose for all the years since Craig was a tiny baby and probably a few more before that.

Mum was also looking sexy down on the beach but Graham didn't care. He also wasn't interested in getting off the towel.

But Craig had fun. He even went for another quick swim but no photos were taken this time.

Craig didn't help pack, bouncing on the bed was much more fun.

Graham wasn't expected to help. At least he stayed out of the way while pretending to talk on the phone.

Business Class on the High Speed Rail was crowded for about half the trip home but when there was space, Craig was quick to grab a seat for himself.

Graham preferred to stay close to his parents. Everything is a telephone for Graham at the moment.

Taking a photo of yourself with a mobile phone camera is always difficult, isn't it?

After finally returning to Taipei, Graham waited at home with Dad .....

while Mum and Craig bought some very unhealthy deep fried food for dinner.

A Quick Break at the Beach

Around mid-March, it came to the attention of Craig and Graham's Dad that there were steep discounts being offered for accommodation at the family's favourite hotel in Kenting. So, a 3-night jaunt was quickly planned for the end of the month, just before the discounts ended.

Graham seemed to enjoy travelling Business Class on the High Speed Rail.

Craig was also happy, even if it doesn't show in this photo.

They had a break at Zuoying. After lunch, Graham simply wouldn't sit still. He had heaps of fun exploring in the department store next to the station.

The bus trip down to Kenting was so boring that Graham took a nap.

They didn't get down to the beach until 4:30.

Everyone was still wearing clothes that had kept them warm in Taipei.

But it was good to be on the beach away from the concrete jungle.

No one was in the water and the sun was on its way down to the horizon. The boys were quite happy just to hang out on the sand for a while.

Craig really enjoyed dinner because it included chips! Mum enjoyed dinner because she thought the waiter (not pictured) was very handsome.

The boys then had heaps of fun in the hotel's playroom.

The little playpen at home has these coloured balls but its much smaller than the one at the hotel.

The boys woke up early the next morning.

But they weren't in a rush to go anywhere.

They spent some time soaking up the view from the balcony.

Soon it was time for the beach.

Graham decided that he didn't want any sand getting on his feet.

Despite it being very windy, the little corner where they settled was well-protected.

Graham remained firm in his resolve to not leave the towel.

Craig had some fun with his usual game of building "castles".

Apart from the wind it was a beautiful day for the beach.

After a full day on the sand, the boys had a late afternooon snack back in the room.

Before enjoying the sunset from the balcony.

It was a nice peaceful place to be after a busy day.

Dinner was at a place that was recommended by friends. In fact, the friends even joined us for dinner but no photos were taken!! The food was good though.
